The role of portraits in the early days of photography and portraits today

1. What are the main differences and similarities between portraits in the early days of photography and portraits today?

The similar between portraits in the early days of photography and protraists today is all the people have the same purpose is to take the photos and makes life more intersted and beautiful. The difference between portraits in the early days of photography and portraits today would be the colour. Many years ago  photos were black and white. Now the protography changed more and more colourful. That's the most different change in the photography area. When I was a child, I don't have too much photos. I've really treasured about the only one black and white photo. Now the world is different. People use camera to record the most beautiful things in this world. In many years ago, people might be go to the photography shop or its for the rich people. Nowadays, photography makes the world became more lively. And also people just have to grad your camera and go to everywhere.

2. Who was the photographer and who was the subject of photographs in the past and today?

In the past, the photographer very limited because not too many people want to be a photographyer. All the photographer was a painter or an artist and also the camera was very exensive and not very famous. People think its very amazing. Nowadays, very one have at least one camera and everyone want to study photography to be a professional phoograper. The camera could be like a toy. My grandfather also bought a camera even he is around 75 years old.

3. What was the impact of technology on the portraits in the past and today?

In my high school we have photograph class. I heared that you have to the blackroom to created your photos. It is not a very easy job. Life was changed. The photos can be created one hour. I was remember in many years ago, I have to put a role film into the camera and next time if you want to more you have to cut it and take it to the shop. It's not very convenient. Nowadays, people just have to use one connect line to insert to the computer. And if you don't like that photo, you can delete very fast.

Can art be mechanically reproduced

When something is reproduced so many times I don’t believe its considered art. Reproduction kills art. In society, even though the mechanical reproduce art can be spread around the world so that many people can appreciate the art that has been created. However, why do people pay millions of dollars for an original piece of art? Why do people spend time and money to visit museums? Why are these original paintings priceless. All of this can relate back to the theory that Benjamin presented which is "Even the most perfect reproduction of a work of art is lacking in one element: its presence in time and space, its unique existence at the place where it happens to be."

I think photography is art and also it is a tool by the artists. They can present their feeling, emotion and passion from the photography to the world.

Henry Peach Robinson created Fading Away by using five negatives in one photo. The death of a young girl surrounded by her family. He showed us the love of the family of this photo. I felt hurt and painful in my heart but its a really good photo.

I think photography is not only art, it's a feeling and emotion from the photographer. I always saw my father has that passion to go out to take photos. When he take the photos, I can see his wrinkles on her face and he never felt that. When he back to home, he always do the photos first and want to share with us. That's why he always said he loved and interested in photography.

Digitalizing changed another world of photography and become more and more common now. It shows how the technology changed today. For exmaple: photoshop. It reproduced a really nice picture and all the people like it so much.
