Assignment 6 Virtual essay

When I first saw Tanya Divjak's phtpgraph, I deeply attracted with her work. So I'm dicided to use her photograph to be my topic for this week. She created very good black and white photograph and her is also produce very good wedding photograph too~

Sunny Dreams

A Golden Retriever puppy sleeps and dreams.  Unaware of his surroundings, he revels in his slumber. Through the photo, I can see Tanya Divjak is really like her dog.

This picture I took in my cousin's house. She is my cousin's favourite. This photograph was really similar with the "Sunny dream" photograph because I capture the best moment of the cat when she is sleeping. Look, she is so cute isn't it? I hope she has a best dream and best afternoon.

Equine
A beautiful solemn eye watches behind long dark lashes.  The soft shiny mane of this beautiful horse whispers across the image and softens it.  This special print captures the essence and spirit of a horse.  Another one of mans' best friends

I took this photo in Egypt. I was remember when I get off the camel. I quickly to decided to take this photo. I think I catched best moment. If I didn't make a good decition, I think I will lost this changce.

Duck on the Moon
Taken while caught in a storm this shot has an interesting effect.  The water was being whipped to a frenzy by wind and rain producing a lunar terrain. In the bottom right-hand corner, you may notice what looks like another smaller duck heading the same direction.  It is just an illusion produced by the wind
 .
I took this photo in High Park. Two ducks swimming in the river. It looks they are relax and playing. I really jealousy their life. In my photo, I just forcus on two ducks. This element can easily represent life itself. Our bodies are composed of water and cannot live without it. Our earth is covered in it, and many of us choose to live, or at least, play near it. Water is really important for us.

                                                                         Bullrushes
The high contrast of these bulrushes against a black backdrop emphasizes their textural integrity.  On closer inspection we see a mottled appearance, almost like that of a shedding fur.

I took this photo in Vancouver. Nothing special but you can see the beautiful view behind the bullrushes.
Flowers have always been the subject of the painter and photographer. But in seeing the obvious, we can miss something just as intricate. Grasses cover the earth like clothing. They are many in species and they are almost always overlooked.  But when the focus is on this subject, our perspective changes. We see the beauty of even a common weed.  Beauty, is truly, in the eye of the beholder.

Five Finger Tree
This fantastic tree reminded me of a giant gnarled hand reaching toward the sky.

I took this photo in Vancouver and it's Summer. I really like to take photos from below to the top through the leaves. It's another style for me. It's was very natural. I like the trees reaching into the sky with some cloud beside. Trees can provide nourishment and the very oxygen we breatheWhen I look up the sky, I will always think what would our world be like without the trees?

The similar is we all enjoy our life and we all shooting the turth of the photography and it's orignal.

WE LOVE PHOTOGRAPH

Japan's Nuclear Refugees

07 April 2011

David Guttenfelder

Odaka, Fukushima prefecture, Japan

Footsteps are imprinted in the drying mud left by the tsunami, on the streets of Odaka, inside the contaminated nuclear exclusion zone encircling the Fukushima Daiichi power plant. The Tohoku earthquake and subsequent tsunami in Japan damaged vital cooling systems at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant. Blasts occurred in a series of reactors, leading to nuclear meltdown and a release of radioactive material, in what was seen as the world’s most serious nuclear accident since the Chernobyl disaster of 1986. A 20-kilometer exclusion zone was declared around the plant, and more than 80,000 people were evacuated. The exclusion zone remained in place for months after the incident, with the Japanese government predicting it could take 40 years to fully decommission the plant and clean up surrounding areas.

Haiti Aftermath

18 January 2010

Riccardo Venturi

Port-au-Prince, Haiti A girl looks on as the Marché Hyppolite in Port-au-Prince burns, six days after a 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti. The market, popularly known as the Marché en Fer (Iron Market) was a city landmark, dating back to 1891. The devastation caused by the earthquake appeared to paralyze authorities, leading to accusations of indecision and delay when it came to clean-up operations. But the enormity of the task that faced them, together with an infrastructure already weakened by decades of violent political instability and economic deprivation, were also to blame. Port-au-Prince presented further difficulties, as its hilly terrain and narrow streets, many of which became blocked by makeshift shelters, hindered access for heavy rubble-removing machinery. Aid agencies said that it could be years before reconstruction work was complete. The Marché en Fer was one of the first buildings in the capital to be restored, thanks largely to an € 8.8 million cash injection by a private donor. A year after the earthquake struck Haiti, just 5 percent of the resultant rubble had been removed from Port-au-Prince, but the Iron Market had re-opened for business with some 900 vendors.

Tree of the Universe

Tree of the Universe

1. The main differences and similarities between art and press photography

Similarities:
I think the similarities is  both types of photography can give the viewer an emotional connection. The photography can represent photographer's feeling and the image can make the viewer feel. They all photography can tell the viewer stories. The purpose is to caputure the image of the moment.
Differences:

Press photography:

Press photography is synonymous with Photojournalism, which is news photography - the telling of a news story primarily through pictures. The "press" refers to the printing press used to produce a newspaper. Other synonyms include news photography and newspicture photography. Press photographers or photojournalists tend to travel light, with a couple of camera bodies, an assortment of lenses, a small flash anod a notebook and pen to record captions and even write stories, since many photojournalists are also reporters.

 Art photography:

Art photography refers to photographs that are created in accordance with the creative vision of the photographer as artist. Art photography stands in contrast to photojournalism, which provides a visual account for news events, and commercial photography, the primary focus of which is to advertise products or services. It was more art.

2. Is it ethical and acceptable to alter art photographs? Why? Why not?

YES
Most artists edit and fix their work to convey their massage to people and also alter art becames more and more popular and famous now. Alter art photography can make the photograph more beautiful than before. I think people will accept that.

3. Is it ethical and acceptable to alter press photographs? Why? Why not?

NO

Photojournalists are not allowed to alter the reality of the situation. People want to know the truth of the new or world. I think it was original. So I think it is not ethical and acceptable to alter press photographs. It goes to the public, it has to contain reality and objective it. Jornalists must not alter their images because their role is to report about various events and inform the sudience about fact.

Assignment 2 - Photo Manipulation

Photo manipulation is the application of image editing techniques to photographs in order to create an illusion or deception (in contrast to mere enhancement or correction), through analog or digital means.
As you know in my introduction, I really like to take pictures when I was travel. Sometimes I like to do some edit of the photos. Here were two photos that taken during the travel.
The first photo was taken in last Summer in Halifax Museum. I took this parrot photo because I saw the parrot cool and lonely eyes. He look at the sky and doesn't want to say anything. I use my camera to catch that moment. When I back home, I use Picasa to edit the photo. I made the photo became more warmer than before. It seems like the sunshine cames through the window and the colour becames more colourful than before. The parrot looks more friendly.
The second photo was taken in Thanksgiving Day in Vancouver. I took this photo on my way to back to the hotel. Photography is to recored best moment and the best things in your life. I felt so lucky I can take this photo in Thanksgiving Day. I would to thanks for the god to give me this chance. By the way, I was use Picasa to edit this photo also. Everyone knows the maple leaf was the simple of the Canada. I made the maple leaf to be more important in the photo. The photo looks more colourful and bright in the photo.  It looks more and more Autumn season than before.
I think photo manipulation could let your life to be more intersting. I would like to say that it is another art. Why don't we use edit photo to make the photos to be more pettier than before . The main purpose is still there and never change.

The role of portraits in the early days of photography and portraits today

1. What are the main differences and similarities between portraits in the early days of photography and portraits today?

The similar between portraits in the early days of photography and protraists today is all the people have the same purpose is to take the photos and makes life more intersted and beautiful. The difference between portraits in the early days of photography and portraits today would be the colour. Many years ago  photos were black and white. Now the protography changed more and more colourful. That's the most different change in the photography area. When I was a child, I don't have too much photos. I've really treasured about the only one black and white photo. Now the world is different. People use camera to record the most beautiful things in this world. In many years ago, people might be go to the photography shop or its for the rich people. Nowadays, photography makes the world became more lively. And also people just have to grad your camera and go to everywhere.

2. Who was the photographer and who was the subject of photographs in the past and today?

In the past, the photographer very limited because not too many people want to be a photographyer. All the photographer was a painter or an artist and also the camera was very exensive and not very famous. People think its very amazing. Nowadays, very one have at least one camera and everyone want to study photography to be a professional phoograper. The camera could be like a toy. My grandfather also bought a camera even he is around 75 years old.

That's my mom

3. What was the impact of technology on the portraits in the past and today?

In my high school we have photograph class. I heared that you have to the blackroom to created your photos. It is not a very easy job. Life was changed. The photos can be created one hour. I was remember in many years ago, I have to put a role film into the camera and next time if you want to more you have to cut it and take it to the shop. It's not very convenient. Nowadays, people just have to use one connect line to insert to the computer. And if you don't like that photo, you can delete very fast.

Can art be mechanically reproduced

When something is reproduced so many times I don’t believe its considered art. Reproduction kills art. In society, even though the mechanical reproduce art can be spread around the world so that many people can appreciate the art that has been created. However, why do people pay millions of dollars for an original piece of art? Why do people spend time and money to visit museums? Why are these original paintings priceless. All of this can relate back to the theory that Benjamin presented which is "Even the most perfect reproduction of a work of art is lacking in one element: its presence in time and space, its unique existence at the place where it happens to be."

I think photography is art and also it is a tool by the artists. They can present their feeling, emotion and passion from the photography to the world.

Henry Peach Robinson created Fading Away by using five negatives in one photo. The death of a young girl surrounded by her family. He showed us the love of the family of this photo. I felt hurt and painful in my heart but its a really good photo.

I think photography is not only art, it's a feeling and emotion from the photographer. I always saw my father has that passion to go out to take photos. When he take the photos, I can see his wrinkles on her face and he never felt that. When he back to home, he always do the photos first and want to share with us. That's why he always said he loved and interested in photography.

Digitalizing changed another world of photography and become more and more common now. It shows how the technology changed today. For exmaple: photoshop. It reproduced a really nice picture and all the people like it so much.
